Battery is the only component in an iPhone that is designed to wear out, and it is the most common hidden cause of a "hot and laggy" older phone. Battery Health Explained: The 80% Threshold and When to Replace

A battery is a consumable — a new one starts at 100%, and dropping to around 85% after two years is completely normal. 80% is the threshold: below it, the system limits performance, and lag, heat, and erratic percentage jumps arrive together. Low Power Mode, Honestly: How Much It Saves, Whether It Hurts Your Battery, and When to Use It

Low Power Mode does save power, but by limiting performance — dimming the screen, pausing background refresh, and cutting 5G and the 120Hz refresh rate.
